Australia adopts the revised Children’s Nightwear and Limited Daywear Standard AS/NZS 1249-2014

The Minister for Small Business, the Honourable Michael McCormack DP, has today announced the adoption of the revision of the Children’s Nightwear and Limited Daywear Standard AS/NZS 1249-2014.

Children’s Nightwear that meets these requirements can be supplied within Australia immediately. This brings Australia into line with New Zealand which as fully adopted this Standard as of April 17th 2017. There will be a phase in period where suppliers may comply with either the 2003 and 2014 versions of AS/NZS with the timing of the phase in as follows.

Up to and including the 31 December 2019 suppliers may comply with requirements from either:

- Trade Practices (Consumer Product Safety Standards (Children’s Nightwear and Paper Patterns for Children’s Nightwear) Regulations 2007.

OR

- Consumer Goods (Children’s Nightwear and Limited Daywear and Paper Patterns for Children’s Nightwear) Safety Standard 2017.

From 1 January 2020 suppliers must comply with:

- Consumer Goods (Children’s Nightwear and Limited Daywear and Paper Patterns for Children’s Nightwear) Safety Standard 2017.
